The apostle Paul wrote, “‘All things are lawful [the NIV interprets as ‘permissible’] for me,’” but not all things are helpful. “‘All things are lawful for me,’” but I will not be enslaved by anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12, ESV). I’ll ride the apostle’s train of thought to the next station: Setting goals is a good thing. Allowing a goal, any goal, to dominate your expectations of success is not.
