Another “must-see” movie is about to flop. Looks like the film of Philip Pullman’s best-selling novel is set to flop, and flop majorly. According to Box Office Mojo, Will Smith’s I Am Legend earned almost as much on Friday as The Golden Compass’s first two weeks. It’s a bit surprising, given the cast, the big push the film got from New Line, and the advertising.
[Even more newsworthy, Legend looks poised to surpass the record December openings of all three Lord of the Rings movies.]
Of course, it may be that the evangelical community, the key demographic for Hollywood’s all-too-rare family-friendly fare, effectively killed the it.
